About Prima Power Laserdyne

Making Customers More Successful

From its beginning in 1981 as Laserdyne Corporation, Prima Power Laserdyne (our name today as part of the Prima Group) has remained true to its mission of providing standard laser systems for cutting, welding, and drilling. Within the first three years, the LASERDYNE® BeamDirector® rotary/tilt axes head was created as a solution for 3D laser processing (cutting, welding, and drilling) of stamped, deep drawn, spun, and hydroformed sheet metal parts.

Early on, LASERDYNE laser systems also became the standard for laser processing of aero-engine components. Then, in the early 1990’s, LASERDYNE machines enabled a transition in the design of aero-engine components that has led to major increases in fuel efficiency and reductions in emissions.

Components originally designed for metal punching that included a few relatively large cooling holes were redesigned to include thousands, and in some cases hundreds of thousands, of small (0.5 mm diameter), shallow angle (20 degrees off the surface) ‘effusion cooling holes’. The capability to produce these holes using LASERDYNE machines lead to a revolution in aero-engine and power generation turbine engine component design.

Today, the same LASERDYNE technology that has enabled double digit improvements in aero-engine fuel efficiency is addressing needs for production efficiency and quality in automotive, medical device, electronics, and other applications.

Prima Power Laserdyne’s Brooklyn Park (Minneapolis), Minnesota facility is one of seven manufacturing facilities of the Prima Group. It is also home for design and application of the LASERDYNE product line of precision, 3D laser cutting, welding, and drilling systems.
